Hello,
Your problem seems to be a very simple condition called "eustachian dysfunction".
There's a tube connecting the posterior part of nose and mouth to the middle ear. This tube contains air. Its basic purpose is to balance air pressure on both sides of the eardrum.
In many cases of upper respiratory tract infection the lower end of this tube gets inflammed. Either the tube gets blocked or infection spreads upwards to the middle ear;in both the cases, usually the air present in the tube gets absorbed. And the eardrum gets sucked in.
This leads to itching ears, heaviness head. The heaviness might spread to the neck too.
And I agree, it is indeed very disturbing.
Kindly consult your family physician. And don't worry, it will be cured easily.
Take care.
