Muffled Hearing, Clogged And Painful. Peroxide To Clean Out Ear. Drain Out More?

I used peroxide to clean out my ear. Now it is hurting and my hearing is very muffled. Is this something that should clear up if I sleep on that ear and let it drain more? I thought I had let it drain well, but there is still some coming out. I used the peroxide about 6 hours ago, so it has been clogged and hurting for a while. Thank you.

ENT Specialist 's  Response
Hi,

Who has suggested you to use peroxide to clean your ears? Ears are very sensitive structures which is not visible to oneself; tampering with them is not advisable!

If you feel there is wax which is impacted, you cannot remove it yourself as it has to be removed under visual guidance. Such tampering could even result in more accumulation of wax, injury to other structures. Now that you have pain too, there is good chance that you have an abrasion in the external ear canal which could lead to otitis externa or infection of the canal. Please visit an ENT specialist for further management.

Sreenivasan
