My 10 Year Old Son Hurt His Ankle/calf Playing Tackle

My 10 year old son hurt his ankle/calf playing tackle football. He heard a pop when he was hit. He did not initially tell us he was hurt because he never complains about pain. The following day he said he could not walk and the pain in his leg was unbearable. We took him to the ER..the doctor did not "believe" he saw anything on the xray but did not do an MRI. (Army installation hospital) He said he has a high ankle sprain and sent him home with crutches, a soft cast, and motrin. It has been 3 days since he was injured. He said the pain is getting worse ( he has a very high pain tolerance...hyper extended his knee once and didn't even cry). He's not been on it except to use the restroom and has kept it elevated with ice. He now has a fever and earlier today said it hurt to breathe. Should I take him back to the hospital?
