My 12-year-old Granddaughter Was In Swim Class Today And Was

My 12-year-old granddaughter was in swim class today and was the only one who "couldn't" make herself jump off the highest diving board. My daughter told me she looked her way several times with anger in her face, but could not jump off. After about 20 - 30 minutes of cheering her on to do it, the instructor had to end the class to go on to another class. In my opinion, having my granddaughter "try" for 20 - 30 minutes was ridiculous. My daughter said as my granddaughter was walking off the diving board she slapped herself in the face!! This has never happened...ever. I was stunned when my daughter told me this. Please tell me how my granddaughter slapping herself in the face should have been handled...and WHY would a child slap herself like that? I am distraught. I live 8 hours away and it's breaking my heart that I can't be with her more.
