My 20 Year Old Son Has A Small Hard Lump

My 20 year old son has a small hard lump in his finger, below the pad between his knuckles. It is increasingly painful and we think may be some sort of cyst. He is a mechanic and uses his hands while he works and notices this most when he grips something. What kind of doctor should we consult about this issue?
