My 28 Year Old Healthy Graduate Student Son Caught A

My 28 year old healthy graduate student son caught a virus last month from someone on the subway. Now his throat doesn't hurt but it is sensitive to air (feels hot) and there is s ome discoloration on the back of his tongue. He is also now having sporatic chest and hand pain on both sides of the chest, and both hands. His resting heart rate is usually 70, but at times his rate spikes to 95 for no apparent reason. Are these symptoms consistent with any viral infection that you know of?
