My 4 year old grandson has been nursing a fever all week. It was 101.9 throughout Monday to Tuesday. I took him to the doctor on Wednesday, they couldn't find the source of his fever or possible infection. Not his ears or lungs. He does have a moderate cough, but no mucus discharge; he sneezes occasionally and also seems congested in his nose. I started him on Amoxicillin, as prescribed on Wednesday night; but by bedtime his fever had spiked go 103.1. I had been giving him acetaminophen all week, but gave him ibuprofen on Wednesday night. Thursday morning, his fever seemed to break, down to 98.3, but he started complaining that his legs hurt and he couldn't walk...only wanted to be carried around. Tonight, his fever is back to 100.9 after giving him acetaminophen again. I've been giving him his antibiotics every 12 hours; his prescribed cough meds every 4 hours; switching between ibuprofen ad acetaminophen for the fever; and a nose spray that he normally takes for his sinus/allergies to relieve the pressure buildup. Am I overmedicating him? And, what could possibly be wrong with him? It doesn't appear to be an infection from a cut he had on the sole of his foot the week before...it appears to be almost healed. Last week, he was bitten on an ear by a mosquito, but that swelling seems to have gone done too. So, I'm ruling out infection by bite or cut. Should we revisit his doctor?
