My 83 Y/o Grandmother Is Scheduled To Have An Elective

My 83 y/o grandmother is scheduled to have an elective hip replacement next week? I am concerned because due to her PMH (Hypertension and hyperlipidemia as well as sleep apnea) the orthopedic feels that she should not be cleared by a cardiologist prior to surgery. What is your take on this? is this appropriate? It doesn't seem right to me.

thanks
