My 83 Yr Old Mother Has Had Several Stomach Surgeries

My 83 yr old mother has had several stomach surgeries in the past due to complications of scarring from endemetriosis, since the age of 26. Her last hospitalization was due to an unusual diverticulosis in the small intestine resulting in a rupture of her upper intestine. Treated with antibiotics and diet, she healed without surgery. Now she's suffering from fissures. My concern is her stools smell awful. After she has a bm (which is typically diarreah) the entire house smells from the odor. I am not certain she has truly healed and concerned she is "rotting" from the inside out. She has asked me to never make her have another surgery again. Yet, i wonder if there is something else I should be looking into for her.
