Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My brother had a section of his colon removed on October 24th and returned home on October 28th. He always had a clear discharge from his incision - sometimes a lot of fluid. This past Saturday night he coughed - and had a flood of bile/feces come out of the incision in one spot. He has had vomiting every since he returned home and cannot eat. I took him to the emergency room. They said he had a small bowel obstruction. Not running a fever. No fluid noted in his abdominal cavity. Dr. says that the small bowel has worked its way up to the incision line , and has opened up. They are not wanting to do anything about this for a month to 6 weeks then go in and do surgery again. This is a small hospital and I am not sure of the knowledge of the doctor's there - Is this a normal course of treatment - or should I look for another larger hospital/doctor?
