Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My brother is 49 years old. He has been a smoker for years and is overweight. He has been taking high blood pressure meds for several years. 3 weeks ago he was admitted to the emergency room for fluid on the lungs and his blood pressure was sky high. They stabilized him and did a number of tests to pinpoint why his BP was so high even though he was already on BP meds. They ruled out a lot of things. He's been discharged, but they are concerned about his kidney numbers and function--which has affected his ability to flush out sodium. They now believe that his bone marrow is producing to much of a certain type of antibody--and that is what they feel is the cause of the kidney issue. His doctor said it could be a number of things with the bone marrow antibody. The next step is they want him to get a biopsy on his kidney tissue. I don't want to get alarmed at this stage, but any time I hear bone marrow--that certainly is concerning. Any thoughts?
