My Ent Doctor Just Suggested I Use Drops Of Warm

My ent doctor just suggested I use drops of warm tap water 2x a day in my ear to unplug my grommet which is plugged with mucous. 2x in the past he had me use ciprodex drops and it helped near the end of the drops but plugged up shortly after. The drops are now dried up and caked on my tube. That is why he wants me to use warm tap water. I've always heard to not get water in your ear with ear tubes. Is this safe and effective?
