Hello, welcome to Healthcaremagic. You should understand that recurrence of prostate cancer can occur even after chemotherapy. It has to be again evaluated and treated accordingly. So you should convince your father regarding visiting a doctor. Cancer patients can get into depression owing to the medical conditions as well as due to side effects of medicines. Xanax is used to anxiety and should not be taken without medical supervision. You have to consult your doctor anyhow regarding good health of your father. Wish your father good health and speedy recovery.

Hi Anna,
Welcome to HCM.
You said he is on treatment for depression. You should consult his psychiatrist and tell him about this. First of all his depression has to be controlled, only then he will be willing to take proper treatment for prostate cancer. Prostate cancer is of course a serious condition and needs regular checkup to look out for spread to the bones.
Wishing your father all the best.
