My Father Who Is In His 50’s Is Having Episodes

My father who is in his 50’s is having episodes of paralysis. He can always breath on his own during the episodes, but has no movement of his legs, head, and arms. He also cannot speak during these episodes until it starts to wear off. The episodes last anywhere from generally about 5 to 20 minutes. What could be causing this?
