My Friend Is In A Lot Of Pain After An Accident And Says It Feels Like His Bones Hurt Incredibly Bad. Is This Normal?

My boyfriend got severe road rash from a motorcycle accident on his left forearm, the emergency room cleaned it and gave us some silvadene cream to put on it. Our concern is that the area around the rest of his arm is very red and hot. He is in a lot of pain, and says it feels like his bones hurt incredibly bad. Is this normal?

I think he should get x ray of the forearm to make sure that there should not be any abnormality of the bone. If x ray is normal then these are the steps.
1. take pain killer like Brufen
2. take antibiotics like cefuroxime
3. compression bandage and regular dressing with Mupirocin ointment.
