My granddaughter is early in her second trimester, and has not eaten in weeks, because she vomits everything up, so she quit eating. Finally she is being fed ?tpn? through a PICC line. A GI Doctor was called in and he did a scope and found she has a hiatal hernia. The problem is, the blood she vomits up is DRIED(dark) blood, and sometimes when she vomits she cannot breathe, even though all she has in her stomach is water. Being unable to catch her breath is terrifying to her, and sometimes she has terrible chest pain with it. (She lost her first baby at 5 months en utero after suffering this ?hyper-emesis? the whole time.) Where does dried blood in vomit come from? I believe any blood from the stomach or esophagus would be red. We are so concerned about her, and the baby. Can you help? The Ob/Gyn doctors say its all about her pregnancy. WHERE DOES DRIED BLOOD COME FROM? What complications could cause it, and would that contribute to the inability to keep even water down? Thanks for any light you can shed on the problem!
