My grandson, age 10, has been prescribed vyvance. Family is divorced and his mother does not communicate with me unless she needs a favor. I am concerned because the 4 kids went through four years of hell while their home schooling mother lost her way in life, but covered for herself socially. The dad is away on assignment for long periods of time similar to a military deployment situation. The mom who had been a very hands on parent, home schooling and giving loving attention, became aloof, disconnected and emotionally abandoned the children. This kid was 6 at the time and the youngest. His older sister, age 8, made meals and got the kids dressed. He was emotionally and occasionally physically brutalized by the other children. This continues today, viscous taunting and excluding . The family present themselves well to outsiders, are intelligent, educated, middle class.
My concern: the medication is a poor substitute for in-depth therapy for the entire family.
This little boy has lost out on so much of life's good experiences.
