My Husband Had An Appendectomy 3 Years Ago. He Had

My husband had an appendectomy 3 years ago. He had an incision which was stapled below his naval. The staples were removed and ever since he has complained about a sharp stabbing feeling in that area. A protrusion appeared and has been causing him pain with some itching the last 2 years. Doctors thought it was a small hernia that had occurred. Yesterday it was itching him so bad he grabbed it and squeezed it and it shot out a large amount of white hard stringy material that looks like Ramen noodles. No smell came from it. Could this be caused from a staple being left behind?
