My Husband Has Type 2 Diabetes And Was Just Released

My husband has type 2 diabetes and was just released from hospital. His numbers since he has been home has been in the low 200's but just tested it now before supper and he is 295. He also started smoking again after being in the hospital for 14 days for blocked small intestine, kidney failure and heart failure. They released him with a insulin injection at bedtime. The number he use on the pen is 8.
Could the smoking affected this number that it is so high? Or does he need to see a doctor tonight?
