Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My husband is 71 and had surgery 12 days ago to Pin and plate an unstable 3 part fracture of the tibia and fibula following a fall on slippery ground. His surgery was delayed for 5 days due to swelling and was sent home with a back slab on after 4 days. Yesterday he had major swelling and today a dvt was confirmed following an ultrasound. To my amazement he is not being treated with anti coagulants as the clot is below the knee so therefore not deemed not to be a risk of breaking away and travelling North. He is to have a rescan in a week to check it hasn't gotten any bigger!! What are your thoughts on this advise. He has type 2 diabetes and heart diseases having had a bypass 6 years ago and has been fit and healthy. cheers jo currie
