My Husband Is Suffering From An Anal Fissure. What Could Be The Cause For This?
Is there any charge for this? If so do not answer. My husband is suffering from an anal fissure. He is using nitro cream. However, he is also having episodes of severe nausea (sp) with dizziness. These are probably not related because the nausea started before the fissure. Also he had prostate cancer surgery a year ago. Probably not related either. He has also had a hip replacement. He is 70. What could be the cause of the episodes?
Hi and thanks for this query. I am so sorry to hear about these anal fissures that your husband has. It is unlikely that this has been caused by the hip replacement f the prostate cancer.
Fissures have different possible causes of which the most common is trauma during defecation. Unless, there are many fissures or they have failed to respond to routine treatment, I will not want to think of this as a manifestation of a systemic disease right now. In addition to the nitro cream, i will recommend sitz baths after stools and at least three times daily to help hasten healing. This is made by adding an antiseptic solution like betadine, chlorhexidine, etc to a small volume of water in a bowl and sitting in it for 30minutes. This will help sterilize the area and accelerate healing.
