My Mom Had A Stroke Roughly A Year Ago And

My mom had a stroke roughly a year ago and it effected the right hand and leg. She did really well in rehab and surgery ect and has been doing really well at home. She has told me recently that her leg has really been bothering her when she walks and says it is painful and it's like the leg doesn't want to walk. Is this serious? Is her doctor maybe missing something? She had quit smoking for a while now but she had gained some weight and her cholesterol is really high right now? What can I do to help her
