My Mum Smokes 2o Cigarettes Per Day

i'm really worried about my mum, she has a serious heart problem, she's 43 and has been smoking for around 25 years? probably more. she smokes at least 20 cigarettes a day, i'm starting to get really worried. i'm 13, i need her more then ever, i don't know what to do. i wish i could make her stop, every time i mention it she tries to avoid it and make a joke out of it, or use the excuse 'i can't help it', she'll never try to stop, i know for a fact she wont, i don't know what to do, help? :( i don't know if i'm over reacting?

Hi Katie I think whats more worrying for you is that at 13 you want your mom to be there when your 43 yourself There is not much you can do apart from tell her you love her and it bothers you that she is not taking more care of herself with her medical problem You do not want to lose your mom and I think your thinking you might, and she should stop for the sake of you to see you grow and blossom, and you want her to be there to watch Its not over reacting, you are just worried about you mom, and that is normal. I think she is being a bit selfish not because she wants to be, but she is not trying to understand how it is for you as her daughter Thing is SHE has to WANT to stop herself for her own health and for you I understand how upsetting it must be for you, but tell her all the time you love her and just want the best for her No easy answer to this, but easier for you in the long run to know you are doing all you can do for your mom All the best Katie
