Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My name is Melinda and 5 weeks ago I had an arthritic cyst removed from my ring finger on the knuckle closest to my nail bed. It was almost finished healing with just a small scab remaining on the incision site. Last night I noticed more dry skin peeling about a 1/4 inch from the scab so I took a clean nail clipper to the edges to clean it up a bit. This morning I awoke with dark red coloring and a bit of swelling & intense throbbing & pain. I've since soaked it in warm water/baking soda. No relief and around 1900 noticed it's gotten redder with more swelling. Will Keflex 500mg dose help until I can get to my hand surgeon in the AM? It's painful from the surface thru my finger & to the underside. I'm sorry to be so stupid about this but I have impaired kidney function due to hydration problems and don't want to take meds that will increase problems. Bless you all for this website. I don't like using ER unless it truely is something that can wait until doctor office hours. Thank you in advance for your care. Sincerely, Melinda
