Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My son has been taking dilantin for 8 years now. 3 pills daily at bedtime. He wants to stop taking the pills since he has trouble sleeping and also is very moody. He's 30 yrs old, had an AVM @ 13 yrs old and given a clean bill of health at that time. 8 yrs ago he was in college and while studying, wasn't balancing his sleep time properly. He passed out one night and was taken to the hospital. on dialntin ever since. Can he be weened off and monitored with blood test to ensure levels are acceptable? His doctor wont say anything to him when he asks her!
