Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My son is 14 years of age, is autistic. He is completely non-verbal. He walks on his toes that has de-shaped his feet. His hearing is excellent and is very fond of listening music. He spends most of his time listening music either on CD/DVD or computer. He uses computer mouse to do all the browsing for watching music videos of his choice only. He also operates TV with remote control. He also operates car's CD player perfectly. Problem is he does not listen or watch music cd, dvd or on computer properly. Instead he keeps on changing frequently. He also shows tantrums for longer periods of time (for hours). He is not capable of going to school nor do we have one in our country. He is on Risperidone for the last 6-7 years. He has sleep disorder for the last 10 years i.e., he keeps wake till late night. We have tried a few medicines on doctors' advice but in vain. Gets hyper when wants some thing and can not tell. We have to take him for car ride and drive him for hours. He is totally dependent on his parents for his daily routine. Cannot change his dress on his own. Cannot even wash his hands or after using toilet. Few of his conditions have improved like eye contact using spoon to eat. He can write as well but not with out prompting i.e., someone has to hold is hand between wrist and his elbow then he can write but only alphabets or numbers but not words. He is totally dependent on other for every thing except a few things like operating computer or TV/ CAD /DVD players. Sometimes he keeps on crying for hours. Sleep disorder is very serious.
