Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My son is 20 months old. Two days ago he went outside with his daddy and his daddy forgot to spray him down with bug spray, and so now my son is covered in mesquito bites. He has been itching them so I gave him 1ml of Benadryl that his doctor prescribed him last December. He went to bed about 8:30 last night and didn't wake up until after 8:00 this morning he woke up not acting like himself. He is usually very hyper and talks alot. He wasn't doing that this morning...He couldn't even stand up with out his legs being wobbly and trying to go back to sleep, and when me or my parents tried talking to him or saying his name he wouldn't even look at us and would just have this blank stare and he keeps trying to scratch his tongue and he try's wiping his tongue on my shirt and couch like it itches...I called his doctor and he couldn't get him in because they were full so I took him to the emergency room I told the doctor what I gave him last night and how much and the doctor didn't even look at him just said oh it's just the Benadryl that hasn't gotten out of his system yet and he turned around and walked out, I made the nurse go get him so he could at least check his ears and make sure it wasn't a ear infection. Then he just discharged us...Im lost what could have be wrong with my baby...he is asleep right now but I'm laying next to him so I can keep an eye on him...Im tempted to drive to the next town to take him to the emergency room if I have to...
