My Son Was Diagnosed With Epidiymitus And Varicocele 2 Weeks

My son was diagnosed with epidiymitus and varicocele 2 weeks ago. Given doxycycline hyclate 100mg tablet for 10 days. On 12th day pain returned. Dr. prescribed cefdinir 300mg tablets on day 13. This antibiotic is new to me and I was curious as to why the choice, if you can shed some light.
