My Son Was Treated For Necrotizing Pancreatitis And Was Prescribed

My son was treated for Necrotizing Pancreatitis and was prescribed Oxycontin in high doses. He no longer needs the Oxy for pain relief but the withdrawal schedule the Pain Relief doctor has him on seems to be taking too long. He is currently down to 20 mg long acting twice a day supplemented with 30mg 24 hour morphine. Is there any "rule of thumb" that we can use to judge whether he is getting good treatment from the pain relief specialist?
