Need Medication For Pain On The Left Side After Appendix Surgery

Hello Doctor. My mom is 78. She has had chronic pain on her left side for many years, she s had x-rays, mri s, ultrasounds and other tests. She even had her appendix removed to no avail. The pain is still there, and it is debilitating. She can t even sleep in her bed. She has to sleep in a recliner. Is there anything you can do to relieve her pain? Concerned Daughter

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.

I understand your concerns and I will try to help you as much as I can. If there was a laparoscopic surgery then this pain may have been caused by nerve damage due to troaca placement during surgery and she should undergo scar revision to rule this out.

Other causes may be related to ovaries and sigmoid colon so she should do gynecologist exam and colonoscopy.

I hope I have answered you query. If you have any further questions you can contact anytime.

Wish you good health.

Regards,
Dr. Ivan R. Rommstein
