Hi,I am Dr. Santosh Kondekar (Pediatrician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Need Treatment For Bruise On Arm After Being Hit By Dog's Paw
I'm 67 and in good health. I take no meds. My dogs paw can hit my arm and I get large purple bruises without pain.I've had my blood looked at and nothing found wrong with it, with all organs working. How can I prevent these bruises, and why does it happen?
Thanks for posting your query at HealthCareMagic. I would hope that your pet dog is already immunised. Dogs like other mammals can get infected by a disease called rabies which is lethal in humans. You need not worry either if your skin was intact or if the dog was immunised against it.
With age, our skin becomes thinner and our blood vessels fragile. Hence we develop a tendency to bleed under the skin as capillaries rupture even with minor trauma. So, your bruise is not unusual. There is no direct way to prevent these bruises other than being cautious not to hurt yourself. The extravasated blood will get degenrated (browish purple colour) and then absorbed spontaneously and you need not do anything about it.
I hope that your query is resolved. Feel free to revert back in case of further queries if any.
