Suggest Treatment For Bruises Under The Armpit

Hi my 16 year old son bruised his bicep during rugby match. he fell on his arm and chest. he has a blue bruise on his bi-cep and blue bruise under his armpit. he is practicing R.I.C.E. He did see a doctor which ruiled out any broken bones or dislocation. When can we start soft tissue massage treatment?

Hello,

It is nice to know that your son did not get any major injury or fractures. Blue bruise is due to blood clots under the skin. You can apply locally Thrombophob gel or ointment in the areas affected to reduce the blue coloration of the bruise.

Do tissue massage only after all the bruise has got well. It will take time. Massaging may complicate problems. Always do it under the observation of a physiotherapist.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
