New Born Spits Up A Lot After Feeding, Strictly On Breastfeeds. Cause?
My 5 week old son has been spitting up A Lot after every feeding and im not sure why. He dont have a fever and is still giving me wet and dirty diapers. Sometimes he spits up more chunky stuff. I strictly breastfeed and havent had any change to my diet beside adding fenugreek pills to help boost my supply. What can it be? My sons doctor suggeated supplementing with soy formula, but i do not wish to give my son formula.

thank you for your query.First i need to congratulate you for persisting with breast milk.Please continue to breast feed only for six months.The spitting is very common and it is due to inadequate burping after feeds. Please burp the baby adequately after each feed, do not put down your baby without hearing him burp.Even if he burps make him lie down on one side for atleast 30mins after feeds.If you unable to burp ask a expert sister to help you out. Do not feed him anything except breast feeds. Your diet does not affect the quality of breast milk.Take lots of fluids and fresh fruits.Hope this answers your query.Have a nice day.

Spitting after each feed due to gastroesophageal reflux which is common in infants and usually it subsides as the age increases mostly by 6 months of age. Do burping after each feed and give frequent small quantity feeds and if still persisting you can give prokinetic medication like domperidone after consulting your Pediatrician. You can give exclusive breastfeeds to your baby till 6 months of age and there after in addition to breastfeeding you can start complimentary feeding.
