Newborn Baby On Breast Feed And Formula. Taking Long Time To Burp. Is Spitting Milk Normal In Babies?
My son is 7 weeks old. Iam giving him both the breast feed and the bottle feed. He takes a long time to burp. As he gets sleep I lay him on the bed. He keeps spitting the milk very often. However the quantity is not much. I heard that its common for babies to spurt but as he spits for almost every feed bothers me. Please advise me regarding this issue.
Thanks for your query,
The spitting of milk (so called reflux or regurgitation) is very common in first few months of life & usually decreases once they are able to sit alone (6-7 months ) & solids are added to the diet.
Young babies often swallow air while drinking milk or crying & burping him with little more patience will definitely help reduce reflux .
If he spits after every feed , it could also be due do overfeeding & consider reducing the feed volume a bit or increasing interval between feeds is likely to help.
Also consider putting him to bed in right turned position as that is less likely to put pressure on stomach & hence less likely to regurgitate milk.
Also make sure that his nappy is not very tight.
As long as he is gaing weight there are no reasons to worry.
Hope you find the information useful.
Take care.
