Normal Ultrasound. Can Large Fibroid S Cause Swelling In Upper Abdomen?
Can large fibroids cause swelling in upper abdomen, especially when standing or laying down? If I sit the swelling will go down and I feel a large area that feels as if something is pushing on my lower abdomen. My doctor is having me sent for a CT scan to see what is going on and suspects a large fibroid, but an ultrasound showed clear.
It is unusual for large fibroids not to be seen on ultrasonography. There are some fibroids called parasitic fibroids that detach from the uterus and get attached to other organs and grow. So they are seen in places other than the uterus. But still they are usually seen on scan.
If the lump is more in the upper abdomen, causes other than fibroids like tumors of the intestine, stomach and liver need to be ruled out.
A CT scan is a very good investigation that will help you in diagnosing the condition. Go ahead and do it.
