I had an abscess removed which was outside but adjacent to one of my front upper teeth. The gum has now healed after 2 weeks. There is still a sense of pressure when I touch the area, and today I have had nosebleeds immediately above the area of the former abscess. I will be seeing my orthodontist in 2 weeks. I have had nosebleeds before above this area of my gum. Is there likely to be a link between the two ? If so, what is the best treatment ? Many thanks! Richard Granshaw, WA
your history is incomplete, you had written that you got an abscess removed, what was the etiology of that abscess and how it is removed. does that involved the adjoining tooth. normally if there is a pressure sensation and pus discharge from the area above the gum margin, it is because of the abscess from the tooth and the infection from the root tip is draining out through gums.
upper front teeth are very close to the nasal floor, it may be the possibility that the infection has perforated the nasal floor and discharge mixed with blood is coming out of nasal cavity.
meet a good dentist and get it resolved soon.
hi,
nosebleed & pressure at that area may be due to an accidental opening between nasal cavity & abcess area.
if abcess cavity lining is not properly removed it will reappear.
if abcess was outside then it may not involve your nose bleed. but upper tooth near your front teeth's root may be near floor of the sinus. during extraction of that tooth, sinus floor can rupture and it may lead to nose bleeds. consult your dentist before starting your ortho treatment. take care..
This may not be related to the root abscess, it can be because of the drying of the mucosa of the nose or some abnormality in the blood vessel in the nose (hemangioma). Only after a thorough examination can this be commented upon. Please consult a good ENT surgeon along with your Orthodontist.
