Not On Antibiotics After Lancing Of 2 Abscesses. Not Sure It Was MRSA. History Of MRSA Abscess Lanced And Was On Bactrim. Suggest
I recently (last weekend) had 2 abscesses lanced. I'm not sure if it was MRSA or not, but if it was, what could happen to me since I never took any antibiotics (due to financial restrictions). I had a previous MRSA abscess lanced about 3 years ago, but I was able to take Bactrim. I was prescribed Cleocin HCI if that helps (I'm not sure if they were prescribed Cleocin for MRSA). THANX
Hello, There is new guideline by IDSA ( infectious diseases society of America ) which states that you need not give any antibiotic after lancing the abscess ( MRSA ). It has been advised that antibiotic should be given only in few circumstances like.... Multiple abscesses Drainage of pus not proper If sites of infection are face or genitalia If there other associated medical illnesses. Although MRSA abscess can be treated by sulfa drugs, tetracyclines and clindamycin but the best drugs to treat MRSA are VANCOMYCIN or TEICOPLANIN. In your case, you should wait. In case abscess returns, get a culture and sensitivity of the pus done and then take the antibiotic accordingly. Thanks
