Noticed A Rash Behind The Head On The Right Side And Down To Chin
My mother who is 94 of age got a shingles shot a few years ago. Now March 2014 a rash developed behind her head on the right side and down to her chin, right ear lobe and shoulder. The skin looks very iritaed, red and pimples are raised. She is very uncompfortable, burning sensation and having trouble sleepong. Very painful almost to the point of crying. She is not getting any relief. COuld this be shingles even though she had the shot? Please respond as soon as you can . Joyce Kelly
Hi there.
I hear your query & albeit a photograph of the region would be appreciated, based on your history, your mum's age & very clear description, Yes...this certainly appears to be Herpes Zoster or Shingles. The shot or vaccination does confer some advantages such as the rash may have been worse had it not been for that injection...but i am sorry i have many patients' over the years who have come to me with both chicken pox (varicella) & shingles after taking the so called 'protective' vaccination. Please take her across to a dermatologist or palliative care specialist nearest you at the earliest & give her symptomatic relief with anti-inflammatory pain killers depending on her tolerance, other medications, medical conditions etc factored in. Good Luck & Godspeed!
