I have a recurring scaly rash on my stomach. It starts as a small itchy bump and with time increases to a larger area of merged bumps. Very itchy. I thought it was a fungus and bought an over the counter fungal medicine, after about a month it finally faded, however it is back again for about the third time.
Itchy, dry scaly skin, are classical of fungal infection(Tinea corporis). Moreover since the lesion responded with topical antifungals, therefore that confirms the diagnosis of fungal infection. However sometimes it can relapse again because topical antifungals alone are sometimes not able to achieve mycological cure
I would ask you get a KOH wet mount from the scale, for a confirmatory diagnosis.
If KOH wet mount shows fungal elements, then you could apply a topical OTC antifungal cream e.g clotrimazole cream, twice daily for 4-6 weeks.
An oral antifungal e.g fluconazole 150mg once weekly for 4-6 weeks is also advisable for a confirmed fungal infection for a more complete cure/mycological cure.
An OTC antihistamine e,g cetrizine 10mg once daily would help you in providing symptomatic relief from itching.
regards
