Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Some times after I eat I have a urge to burp.It like a discomfort feeling in my chest right in the middle of my breast. But when I do burp than the same feeling comes right back again. Can you please tell me what can be causing this and what can I do to help prevent this problem?
The burping which we usually have after meals has air which we have swallowed while eating. Excessive air get accumulated in the stomach and can cause urge to burp, but there is sphincter or valve mechanism in lower end of our food pipe or Esophagus which prevents reflux of food from entering into esophagus from stomach. so when sufficient amount of air get accumulated in stomach, lower esophageal sphincter or valve opens up and we burp. Some time there are certain food which also produces gas like carrots, garlic, cauliflower etc. which also leads to increase burping. So during taking any meals, Eat very slowly and chew it properly and do not be in a hurry. And also immediate after taking meals do not lie down. Have a walk of couple of minutes. This will solve your problem.
