Numbness In Quadriceps. Could This Be Meralgia Paresthetica?

Hello,
A couple weeks ago, I ended up sleeping a couple hours over the foot of my bed while facing forward. I awoke in the early morning, went to bed normally and then noticed numbness in my quadriceps in the morning. My bed has a wooden top rail which I had layed across at my hip section. The numbness is still there, could this be meralgia paresthetica and should I go see a doctor?
Regards,
Ken

Hi, thanks for writing to HCM. Meralgia paresthetica presents as tingling & numbness in the upper outer quadrant of thigh which is a type of compression neuropathy and is commonly seen in obese people with pedulous abdomen (pot belly). Propably you could have developed a similar sort of neuropraxia of cutaneous nerve secondary to compression. Usually this should resolve spontaneously with time. If you are still concerned, visit an orthosurgeon/neurophysician and follow their advise. Hope this helps
