Old Aged, Suffering From Congestive Heart Failure, Asthmatic Bronchitis. Large Hematomia After Falling. Further Treatment?
Hello my 90 year old father-in-law was admitted into the hospital on Sat with Congestive Heart failure and Asthmatic Bronchitis ...he was immediately put on blood thinners and different things that he had decided that he no longer wanted to take for his heart. They warned him repeatedly about the dangers of trying to get out of bed without help. On Monday evening he tried getting out without help and leaned on the tray by the bed and it threw him across the floor and he now has a large hematomia above his right ear. They have informed us he has a brain bleed that is growing larger and plan surgery for this coming Friday ..What are should we expect?

Dear patients grand son/daughter, no thing is guarented in medical science and also nothing is impossible and also wonders do happen but to be realistic , your grand father is at the extreme of his age i.e 90 years, has already got poor lungs and heart due to congestive heart failure and asthamatic bronchitis and is now undergoing a neuro surgery for expanding intracranial bleed, you can yourself understand how much dise and difficult situition it is for the old gentleman to fight and combat and to come out as a winner, lets prey to GOD for the best and at the same time should be prepared for the worest
Wish him good luck and speedy recovery
Thanks
Dr Arshad
most probably is subdural hematoma(As the brain shrinks with age, the subdural space enlarges and the veins that traverse the space must travel over a wider distance, making them more vulnerable to tear)
overall prognosis depend upon current heart status, glass go coma scale, size of bleed
The recovery time varies from 1 to 4 weeks. Full recovery may take up to 8 weeks.
Postoperative complications include increased intracranial pressure, brain edema, new or recurrent bleeding, infection, and seizure
