Hi Amit
It is good that your mother has responded to the medication.
I would suggest you take her to a psychiatrist so that a diagnosis is made. Based on diagnosis, the medications may be tapered or prescribed for longer period of time by your psychiatrist.
Especially since her age is 68 years, it is a good idea to consult a doctor directly in a face-to-face interview before any decision is made.

Psychiatrist Dr. Anjana Rao Kavoor's  Response
Hi Amit,

Escitalopram is an antidepressant and clonazepam is a sedative, the combination of which is used initially in treating depressive disorders.

The problem with stopping escitalopram abruptly is discontinuation syndrome where anxiety, agitation, body ache etc are seen and with stopping clonazepam abruptly is insomnia, restlessness and rarely seizures. The decision of how long the drug will continue should be taken by a psychiatrist after examining the patient in detail and also confirming the initial diagnosis. In case you need to stop you will be directed how to stop.

Hope this helps,
Dr A Rao
