On Gabapentin. Pain Is Controlled. Fell Asleep Very Fast. Caused By The Medicine? Should It Be Lowered?
I TAKE GABAPENTIN 300 MG 3X PER DAY FOR PAIN CONTROL (FOR YEARS I SUFFERED FROM PAIN RELATED TO FIBROMYAGLIA). WHILE MY PAIN IS WELL CONTROLLED, I FALL ASLEEP ANY TIME I SIT STILL FOR A FEW MINUTES. THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR ABOUT A YEAR, GETTING PROGRESSIVELY WORSE. I WONDER IF THIS DRUG IS THE REASON? SHOULD MY DOSAGE BE LOWERED OR SHOULD I DISCONTINUE THE DRUG? I READ THAT IF DISCONTINUED, IT SHOULD BE TAPERED OFF. PLEASE ADVISE. THANK YOU
Hi,
Welcome to healthcare Magic!
Gabapentin is a good drug for seizures am
nd neuropathic pain butcan lead to ataxia dry mouth and somnolence.
if you happen to be a bit overweight then may be you are suffering some additional sleep disorder and it is advisable that you decrease the doses in supervision of a physician and observe the difference and also get a slep study wich will give a more concrete answer to this doubtful situation.
An overnight EEG is also worthwhile.
I hope the advise would be informative and useful for you.
Take Care!
