On Metronidazole Gel For Rosacea. Now My Forehead Is Clearer, But Have A Jock Rash. Side Effect Of The Medicine?
Hello Doctor,
I was prescribed Metronidazole gel to use on my face for rosacea back in May by a VA dermatologist. I have been using once a day usually at night after showering. Lately my face (primarily forehead) has been clearer, but I recently sustained a bad case of jock rash (looks like ringroom) even though I kept the area pretty dry. I was surprised I got the jock rash as I have had it many times throughout my adult life and know rather well how to prevent it. Since Metronidazole is an antibiotic, is there a chance that it could have exacerbated a systemic fungal situation and made me more susceptible to contracting the jock rash/ringworm?
Hi, This can be side effect of metrinidazole cream. Metronidazole is not an antibiotic so there is no side effect of exacerbation of antibiotic over fungal infection. Consult dermatologist again and discuss about your this problem. If it is a fungal infection, go its treatment. Ok and take care.
