Hi.
Thanks for asking in Healthcare Magic.
Yasmin contains
Ethinyl Estradiol, a estrogen and Drospirenone, a new progesterone with anti androgenic property. Zoely has the same estrogen with a different progesterone Nomegestrel which also has anti androgenic property. Both are
oral contraceptive pills.
Although androgenic stimulation is a main cause for acne in adolescent girls, OCP pills should be used only in severe acne with cysts and pustules that are likely to form scars. Because they can result in side effects like irregular bleeding, bloating, weight gain and even
deep vein thrombosis. OCP is used in women with hormonal flares of acne related to menstrual cycle. Also, OCP can be given only as an add on therapy along with other topical anti acne preparations like Azelaic acid or Adapalene.
Although OCP preparations like Ortho Tricyclen, Desogen and Miracette have similar combinations (but with different progestins) like Zoely and approved for acne treatment I would suggest you to discuss with your
dermatologist about the possibility of recent treatments like Dermabrasion, laser therapy ,
light therapy and chemical peel.
I hope this is useful to you.
