On Climara After Thee Surgery Of Removal Of Ovaries. When Can I Be Normal?

Hi , my name is Adrian and I had both ovaries removed three weeks ago, 11.15.13. I have been on prempro which made me feel sick, and achy, and severely fatigued. I am now on climara and a progestin pill. I am so fatigued I can t get out of bed. I am very active have a great family with three children, and this is awful to feel this way. Is there anything I can do to feel better? Can a woman at 38 go without HRT? I am also very swollen. I am dying to feel normal, and don t know how

Hi,
Welcome to HCM,
When we start these hormonal replacement medicines, body takes little time to adjust with altered hormonal levels in blood. Give some time, or you may take one tablet of metaclopromide half an hour before your hormonal pill, which will reduce its side effects. I hope you are taking your pills at bed time. Your symptoms could also be due to post operative weakness, other medicines like antibiotics, pain killers etc, and may be due to loss of excessive blood loss during operation. You have not written, the indication for removal of both ovaries.
If at all you do not get rid of these symptoms, there are patches of Estrogen hormones available, which can be applied, daily or twice in a week. It will reduce above side effects. Your Doctor should also check your Estrogen levels and decide the dose in such a way that your estrogen levels maintained between 50-100 pg/ml
At the age of 38years, it is important to take hormonal replacement thearpy to avoid osteoporosis, Heart disease, and vasomotor symptoms. But if you are really not tolerating above HRT, it is okay to give you some time for proper post operative recovery, and can be started after some time. You must take good healthy food, do regular exercises, avoid smoking, and Alcohol.
Remember also, that the hormone which is given to you, was there naturally in your blood before removal of ovaries. So do not feel aversion with medicines. But definitely your doctor has to weigh the benefits and side effects of the medicines, and advise accordingly.
Wish you speedy recovery.
