On Diazepam For Severe Panic Attacks, Become Tolerant. History Of Endometriosis, IBS. What Dosage Of Xanax Could Possibly Help?

I have stage 4 endometriosis, and a lot in my bowels and bladder. had surgery and it did not help. I also suffer from severe panic attacks and have been on diazepam 10mg 3 times a day for 5 years and have become tolerant of the medicine. My panic attacks last over 3 hours and it is torture on me mentally and physically. What would be the next step up from the diazepam 10mg ,3 times a day. I also have irritable bowel syndrome which has gotten worse.. I am a prisoner in my own body. I would like to be put on Xanax, since it is a muscle relaxer also. Since the mg of diazepam does not work anymore , what mg and dosage of Xanax would you suggest?

Hi,
Thanks for using healthcare magic.

I have gone through your available history.

ALprazolam is good anti anxiety agent but similar to daizepam, it also has abuse potential and tolerance issues. So you should consult your doctor before taking it.
Usual dose of alprazolam is 0.5 mg to 4 mg but it varies between individual.

Drugs like peroxetine or sertraline are also off good help to control panic attack and anxiety. You may get prescription from your doctor for same.

You may also get benefit by doing stress management, breathing exercise for better control over panic attack.

Thanks.

Hi
Diazepam for panic disorder is not a scientific choice. It is bound to result in loss of effect due to tolerance and dependance issues. Besides it may cause memory loss on long term use. Xanax is again a wrong choice and highly habit forming
Panic attacks can have many causes like cardiac arrythmia, mitral valve prolapse or hyperthyroidism These should be checked by a competent doctor.
SSRI like sertraline or paroxetine or fluoxetine is the drug of choice
