Hi, Thanks for writing to us. You should consult a diabetologist for change of medication and get your wife other investigation like HbA1c to be done to see your blood sugar status in last 3months. She should not take sugar, do regular work out, eat leafy vegetables, strict diet plan, take proper sleep and avoid stress. Good luck. Regards Dr. Richa
Hello, Thanks for the query to H.C.M. Forum. Gluformin 1 gm i.e.metformin from one year and still diabetes is not under control In such type of cases revaluation of disease is important i.e. diabetes is either resistant or not responding to treatment. Sometimes exact cause of disease is not known so once again get in ultrasound of pancreas and thereafter proceed . Combination with insulin sometimes help in these cases as I prescribe my patient. So consult your treating Diabetologist and get his opinion . Also you can consider multiple drug therapy ,that is next choice in these type of cases. Good luck. Dr. HET
Hello, Diabetes is a progressive disease and due to progressive loss of beta cells of pancreas, oral anti diabetics loose their effect gradually. These beta cells are responsible for control of blood sugar levels. There is nothing to worry because there are various other good oral antidiabetics available in market, which can control the sugar levels for many years more. GLUCOFORMIN G 1 has 500 mg METFORMIN and 1 mg GLIMMIPRIDE. You can double the dose or you can add drugs like VOGLIBOSE to your current regime. There are various combinations which can be given to your wife. It would be better to talk to a diabetologist or an internal medicine specialist for proper prescription. Keep proper dietary control and regular aerobic exercises for 45 minutes a day along with medications. Best of luck Thanks
just went through your letter, regarding the question in hand i would like to give the following suggestions 1.pl evaluate her full diabetic panel tests including HbA1C, renal and liver markers and lipid levels 2. review her drugs , you may go for newer drugs such as DPP-IV inhibitors which though costly now are more benefficial 3. If her HbA1C levels are beyond 8.5 pl consider including Insulin in her regimen 4. initiate self monitoring of blood glucose at home using a glucometer, sometimes in cases of post prandial hyperglycemia simply adding a alpha glucosidase inhibitor, e.g acarbose will be enough 5.she should be on a planned, properly individualized diet schedule
hoping she gets well soon
