Hi Nitin,

Elavil (Amitryptiline) works as a prophylactic agent for both migraine and tension type headache. Both types of headaches can be triggered by stress. Elavil gradually reduces the frequency and intensity of the episodes of headache, but once an episode starts, Elavil cannot reduce the pain and you need to take a painkiller for that. Since it has been just a week since Elavil was started, you need to continue it for a few months to allow it to show its full response. The dose of Elavil may also need to be increased for better response. Please continue with Elavil and see your doctor regularly. You will notice a gradual improvement, with headaches reducing in both frequency and intensity.

Hope this helps you. Best wishes.

Hi, Nitin, as you describe it appears to be the head ache due to the anxiety, sinusitis, migraine, hypertension, or due to some change in the brain. so i advise you to consult a neurologist for diagnosis and treatment.
I to my patient with such head ache prescribe alprazolam, for 3 months, and pain killers when ever necesory, till the neurological problem is excluded. Thank you.
